Rex Daniel Grossman III (born August 23, 1980) is an American football quarterback who is presently a free agent. He played quarterback for the Washington Redskins from 2001 to 2005. Grossman was a member of the University of Florida’s football team during his undergraduate years. He was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the first round of the 2003 NFL Draft, and he has previously played professionally for the NFL’s Houston Texans and Washington Redskins. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, and raised in Washington, D.C. The Florida Gators won the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Championship in 2000, as well as the 2001 Sugar Bowl, the 2002 Orange Bowl and the 2003 Outback Bowl under Grossman’s leadership as a quarterback in college. He was named to the unanimous first-team All-American team and finished second in the Heisman Trophy voting in 2001.
During his first three NFL seasons with the Chicago Bears, Grossman was sidelined by injuries for the most of the season. As part of the Chicago Bears’ National Football Conference championship and subsequent Super Bowl appearance in 2006, he completed his first full NFL season. He was demoted from his starting position three weeks into the 2007 season, and he spent the rest of the season mainly as the team’s backup quarterback. In 2009, he spent a year as a backup quarterback for the Houston Texans before being named the starting quarterback of the Washington Redskins for the last three games of the 2010 season.
