Council goes to court to obtain order to evict travellers from Little Lever field
A COURT order will today be obtained to evict travellers parked up on a playing field in Little Lever.
Two caravans pulled up on to fields off Meadow Close on Sunday.
A notice was served asking the travellers to leave the field on Monday, today the council will go to court if the travellers have not left this morrning.
Ward councillor Sean Hornby said: "I have visited the site and also spoken with our Gypsy liaison Officer and our Executive Member for Environment Councillor Adele Warren.
"A notice to leave on Monday was served in the meantime Bolton Council have obtained a court date for this Friday at Bolton Magistrates Court to evict them from the land if they have not gone."
He added: "Once they have vacated the area we will see what steps can be taken to help prevent it happening again."
The notice served by the council asks the travellers to leave within 24 hours.
Under the court order they must leave the land in a 'reasonable' time, typically seven days.
If the order is not obeyed the police are called to help enforce it.
Once the travellers have left, the site is cleaned and restored as soon as possible.
Recently travellers set up a large camp on Moss Bank Park but left soon after police were called to reports of a stolen caravan.
